Volume 039: Edirne III (year unknown, 1864–1868) (6 of 6)

BH09843: Glory be to Thee, O my God! I beseech…

He is God

Glory be to Thee, O my God! I beseech Thee by Thy Name through which Thou didst open the gates of meeting unto all who are in Thy earth and heaven, and through which Thou didst give Thy chosen ones to drink from the chalice of Thy Command and Thy Glory, that Thou mayest make this youth to gaze upon Thee and to be detached from all else but Thee. As Thou hast named him Beauty, make him beautiful in all conditions. Then adorn his outer and inner being with the ornament of acceptance, and inscribe him among those who have attained, for whom Thou hast ordained no foundation save Thy love and knowledge. This is the hope in the hearts of Thy chosen ones and trusted ones. There is no God but Thee, the Mighty, the Exalted, the Unconstrained.

BH09845: Glorified art Thou, O my God! I beseech Thee…

In the Name of God, the Most Holy, the Most Exalted, the Most Glorious!

Glorified art Thou, O my God! I beseech Thee by the light of the Sun of Thy unity and the dawning of the Morn of Thy singleness, then by Thy Most Exalted Word whereby Thou didst quicken all who are in earth and heaven, that Thou cause me not to be of them who claim to believe in the letters which were created by Thy command, yet have turned away from the Most Great Word—from Him Who created them and spoke them forth. Then make me, O my God, one who uttereth Thy praise and turneth toward Thee, who is oriented to the sanctuary of Thy nearness and the Kaaba of union with Thee, that I may find repose beneath the shadow of Thy tenderness and mercy and dwell in the precincts of Thy generosity and favors. There is no God but Thee, the Omnipotent, the Sublime, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Unconstrained.

BH09855: Praised be Thou, O Lord my God! Graciously grant…

He is the Most Glorious

Praised be Thou, O Lord my God! Graciously grant that this infant be fed from the breast of Thy tender mercy and loving providence and be nourished with the fruit of Thy celestial trees. Suffer him not to be committed to the care of anyone save Thee, inasmuch as Thou, Thyself, through the potency of Thy sovereign will and power, didst create and call him into being. There is none other God but Thee, the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

Lauded art Thou, O my Best Beloved! Waft over him the sweet savours of Thy transcendent bounty and the fragrances of Thy holy bestowals. Enable him then to seek shelter beneath the shadow of Thy most exalted Name, O Thou Who holdest in Thy grasp the kingdom of names and attributes. Verily Thou art potent to do what Thou willest, and Thou art indeed the Mighty, the Exalted, the Ever-Forgiving, the Gracious, the Generous, the Merciful.

BH09856: Glorified art Thou, O my God!

He is God!

Glorified art Thou, O my God!

This is Thy servant whom Thou hast brought forth from the loins of one of Thy loved ones and named Jalal (Glory) in the kingdom of Thy names and nurtured beneath the shade of the Tree of Thy Cause and given to drink of the wine of Thy love.

O my God! Deprive him not of the wonders of Thy gifts and withhold him not from the direction of Thy nearness and good-pleasure. Then cause him to walk in the path of Thy guidance, then detach him from all else save Thee, then send down upon him that which will purify him from all things that Thy fire of love may be kindled within him in such wise as to ignite thereby the hearts of Thy servants and the souls of Thy creatures.

Verily, Thou art the All-Powerful, the Most Exalted, the Mighty, the All-Knowing.

BH09913: Glad tidings unto thee, O servant, for thy letter…

He is the All-Glorious!

Glad tidings unto thee, O servant, for thy letter hath been presented before God and thy name hath flowed from the tongue of thy Lord, the True, the Faithful.

Yet, by My life! If thou wert to become aware of what hath befallen this Beauty at the hands of the people of error, thou wouldst surely weep within thyself throughout the duration of God’s kingdom, wert thou to be of them that behold. However, We have been patient and have concealed these things lest the lamentation of those near unto God be raised.

And thou, in these days, detach thyself from all who are on earth and turn thy face toward thy Lord, the Dawning-Place, the Luminous. Be not troubled when the cry of the wayward is raised. This is God’s counsel unto thee, if thou be of them that act.

And the Glory be upon thee.

BH09914: Glorified art Thou, O my God! I beseech Thee…

He is the Mighty One!

Glorified art Thou, O my God! I beseech Thee by Thy Name through which Thy Beauty was made manifest, and Thy proof did shine forth, and Thy names did appear, and Thy Dove did warble, and then Thy Most Great Name and Thy Most Ancient Beauty were upraised, to exalt Thy Cause and to aid Thy loved ones, and to bestow upon them from the fruits of the Tree of Thy Oneness and the produce of the holy Tree of Thy Singleness. Verily, Thou art the Powerful, the Mighty, the Self-Subsisting.

Then reward, O my God, this one who hath believed in Thee and in Thy greatest signs. Aid him, O my God, through the wonders of Thy assistance, and send down upon them patience in that which Thou hast raised up unto the heaven of Thy uniqueness and the horizon of Thy detachment. Verily, Thou art the Mighty, the Beloved.

BH09917: O My God! Glorified art Thou!

O My God! Glorified art Thou!

This is Thy servant who fashioned with his own hands what he fashioned for Thee, then was afflicted after that with separation and remoteness from Thee, whereby patience departed from all who have eyes to see, and whereby arose the lamentations of those near unto Thee, then their crying, and the weeping of the believers, then their weeping.

Therefore, O my God, since his hands are cut off from the mantle of Thy nearness and reunion with Thee, let not the cord of Thy loving-kindness and the handle of Thy favors be cut off from his heart. Verily Thou art powerful over what Thou willest, and verily Thou art the Protector, the Self-Subsisting.

Then make his feet firm upon the path, for verily Thou art the Mighty, the Beloved.

BH09970: Say: O people, fear not the might of those…

He is the Most Exalted, the Most High.

Say: O people, fear not the might of those who have wronged and who have joined partners with God. Be steadfast in the Cause, then detach yourselves from all who are in the earth and the heavens. Say: Remembrance is sweet in the days of fear and distress. Thus it behooveth those who have turned towards God, the Lord of Names and Attributes.

When the victory arriveth, every man shall profess himself a believer and shall hasten to the shelter of God’s Faith. Happy are they who in the days of world-encompassing trials have stood fast in the Cause and refused to swerve from its truth.

Verily, thou hast turned with thy heart unto God and He shall suffice thee against those who have wronged and those who have denied the Revealer of verses.

BH10022: This is a missive from the servant to him…

This is a missive from the servant to him who hath believed and been guided, and who hath detached himself from all who are in the heavens and on earth and hath turned his face toward his Lord, the Lord of the hereafter and of former times.

O servant!

We have caused thee to hear the melodies of the Dove which warbleth at all times upon the twigs of the Divine Lote-Tree. Glorified be thy Lord, the Most High! And now We cause thee to hear once again, as a bounty from thy Lord, the Most High, the Most Glorious. Say: Verily He is the Spirit, and at this moment He is in the Most Exalted Horizon, cooing with the cooings of the Dove of the Cause, that He may raise you up to the ultimate heaven of might.

And the Spirit and glory be upon thee and upon the people of understanding.

BH10023: This is a Book from the presence…

In the Name of God, the Ever-Abiding.

This is a Book from the presence of the Mighty, the Powerful, the All-Forgiving, unto them that have detached themselves from all faces and have turned towards the face of the All-Merciful in these days.

Say: The Lion of Command hath appeared and the asses have taken flight. Thus hath the matter been decreed from before God, the Powerful, the Mighty, the Chosen One.

Verily, cast aside what thou hast of allusions, then ascend by the ladder of detachment unto the Lord of Names and Attributes. Say: We have forsaken what ye possess and have taken what is with God through power and sovereignty.

And the glory be upon thee and upon him over whom have wafted the sweet savors of the All-Merciful from the Yemen of the All-Glorious. There is none other God but He, the Powerful, the Mighty, the Bountiful.

BH10033: Though in these days of tribulation the winds…

In His name, the Most Exalted

Though in these days of tribulation the winds of sedition have extinguished the lamp of the love of the All-Merciful in the breasts of men, yet God will cause it to be rekindled through His command, for verily He hath power over all things. Say: Glory be unto Thee, O my God! I beseech Thee by the lamp of Thy Cause between Thy earth and Thy heaven, that Thou wilt not number me among those whom the tempests of fear and trepidation have prevented from remaining firm in Thy Cause and steadfast in Thy love. Then cause me, O my God, to be wholly detached unto Thee, remembering Thy Name and extolling Thy praise in the dominion of Thy creation. Verily, Thou art the Most High, the Mighty, the Unconstrained.

BH10059: O thou who gazest toward the shore of contentment!

O thou who gazest toward the shore of contentment!

Blessed art thou for having found the fragrance of My good-pleasure, and drunk from the chalice of My glory, and turned thy face toward My face, and entered the stronghold of My Cause, and sought shelter beneath the shadow of thy Lord’s loving-kindness, and inhaled the sweet scents of My raiment, and hearkened unto My words and then My melodies.

Soon shall My Book appear before thee. Then take it with a power from Me, and drink from the fountainhead of its words the Kawthar of My utterance, and from its allusions the Tasnim of My knowledge.

Then witness in the temples of its letters their submissiveness and humility before God, the Lord of the worlds, how they appear in the posture of standing and sitting and prostration before God, the Mighty, the Exalted, the All-Knowing.

BH10076: O my Lord and my God! This…

He is God

O my Lord and my God! This is a child whom Thou hast brought forth from the loins of one of Thy servants, for whom Thou hast ordained a station among the stations in the tablets of Thy decree and the pages of Thy destiny. I beseech Thee by Thy Name through which every soul hath attained unto that which it desired, that Thou make him perfect among Thy servants, manifest through Thy Name, speaking forth Thy praise, turned toward Thy direction, and drawing nigh unto Thyself.

Verily Thou art He Who hath ever been powerful over whatsoever Thou willest and shall ever remain powerful over whatsoever Thou desirest. There is none other God but Thee, the Most High, the Most Great, the All-Compelling, the Mighty, the Omnipotent.

BH10302: God testifieth that there is none other God but…

He is the Mighty!

God testifieth that there is none other God but Him, the Mighty, the Beauteous, and that the Point of the Bayan is His servant and His splendor unto all who are in the heavens and on earth.

And thou, O servant, give thanks unto God, thy Creator, for having singled thee out for His love and sent unto thee this luminous Tablet. Give thanks, and again give thanks, in thy heart and in thine essence, at every morn and eventide. Take heed lest thou grieve over aught, but rather rejoice in the joy of God, the Mighty, the Powerful.

Thus hath the Dove warbled in this remote prison, that thou mayest be of them that render thanks.

BH10171: He is the Mighty One, the Beginning…

He is the Mighty One, the Beginning and the End, and unto Him ascend the cries of the servants.

O ye who love God among the Arabs!

If God granteth you a male child, give him the title of Abdu’l-Baha and name him Husayn or Ali. This is what We have commanded you, if ye be of them that act. And if it be a female child, give her the title of Amatu’l-Baha and name her Dhakriyyih that ye may remember thereby the Day wherein the Most Great Remembrance of God will come to you with manifest sovereignty; or name her Nuriyyih or Sadhijiyyih or ʿAzziyyih. All of this We have ordained for you in holy and resplendent Tablets.

BH10172: O handmaiden of God! Remember thy Lord, then be…

In the Name of God, the Mighty, the Wondrous

O handmaiden of God! Remember thy Lord, then be devoted to Him and rely in all matters upon Him. Verily He watcheth over thee. He preserveth whomsoever He willeth through the sovereignty of His command and nourisheth whomsoever He desireth with the fruits of His love. Verily He keepeth count over thee. Deprive not thyself of the breezes of the days of thy Lord. Remember Him at all times—this is better for thee than all that hath been created on earth. And the glory be upon thee, O handmaiden of God, from One mighty and all-knowing.

BH10173: O handmaid of God!

O handmaid of God!

I have been prevented from engaging in remembrance due to what has befallen Me from My brother and those who followed him, despite their having no knowledge thereof—and God is witness to what I say. Indeed, I have become the target of the arrows of his hatred and rancor, and at every moment there comes upon Me that which causes My soul to grieve. None is aware of this save God, your Lord and the Lord of all worlds.

Be grateful to your Lord in all conditions and place your trust in Him. Verily, He will bring to you that which is better for you than all that has been created between the heavens and the earth.

BH10232: These are verses of holiness which have been sent…

In the Name of the All-Merciful!

These are verses of holiness which have been sent down in truth from the heaven of mighty glory, that they may draw those who have believed in God and bring them near to a station of exalted glory.

Blessed art thou for having attained unto the recognition of God and taken unto the Lord of grace thy way. Grieve not over anything, but place thy trust in all matters in God, thy Lord. Verily He will guard thee in truth, and verily He encompasseth all things.

Thy letter hath come before Us, and We have answered thee with these verses, with which all who dwell on earth cannot compare.

And the Spirit be upon thee and upon whoso is God-fearing in this Cause.

BH10250: I have departed and emigrated and arrived and returned…

In the name of God, the Everlasting.

I have departed and emigrated and arrived and returned. Guard thyself lest thy deeds be rendered vain and thy hope be cut off. This sufficeth thee if thou be of them that act. Give thanks unto thy Lord for having been granted that which thou didst hope for.

Say: O my Lord! Pour forth upon me patience in my exile from this severe cold, then make me to be numbered with Thy grateful servants.

And when thou reachest the Abode of Peace, convey greetings from Us to thy brethren and to them who are rightly guided.

And mercy be upon thee and upon thy brethren and upon the sincere servants of God.

BH10276: Glorified art Thou, O my God!

In the Name of God, the Most Holy, the Most Holy!

Glorified art Thou, O my God!

I beseech Thee by Thy Name through which Thou didst take unto Thyself the spirits of all things and didst give them life anew through what Thou hadst ordained in the heaven of Thy decree, and through which those who have recognized Thy unity hastened to the scene of annihilation and the sincere ones to the place of sacrifice, and offered up their souls in their love for Thy beauty and their longing for reunion with Thee and attainment unto Thy presence—that Thou mayest make me to be of them who have detached themselves from all names and have clung to Thy Self, the Most Exalted, the Most Glorious.

Verily, Thou art the Powerful over whatsoever Thou willest. There is none other God but Thee, the Mighty, the Self-Subsisting.

BH10283: Glorified art Thou, O my God! This…

In the Name of God, the Most Holy, the Most Exalted

Glorified art Thou, O my God! This is a leaf which the breezes of Thy loving-kindness have stirred, and which the melodies of Thy glorious oneness have attracted, and which Thy love hath taken to such a station that it is prevented from turning to any besides Thee, and its face is honored by turning only unto Thee. Thy tender mercies and favors have taken it to such a degree that its name hath become renowned in the Most Great Paradise. I beseech Thee, O my God, to maintain it in what it is, through the perpetuity of Thy glory, and to never cut off from it the wafting of the breezes of Thy mercy throughout all eternity. Verily, Thou art powerful over whatsoever Thou willest, and verily, Thou art the Forgiving, the Merciful.

BH10319: The Hidden beareth witness unto My Concealed Name…

He is the Mighty, the Everlasting, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise!

The Hidden beareth witness unto My Concealed Name, and the Concealed beareth witness unto My Hidden Name, that there is none other God but Me, the Mighty, the Loving. The River hath flowed, and the verses have been sent down, yet the people comprehend not. We desire to write for thee that which the Point of the Bayan and the Primal Beauty intended for the people of Baha, that thou mayest render thanks unto thy Lord, the Generous. God is well-pleased with thee—these are words which, wert thou to expend all that is on earth, thou wouldst not attain unto. But God doeth what He willeth and ordaineth what He pleaseth, and He is the Mighty, the Generous.

BH10324: Well is it with thee, O servant, for having…

In the Name of God, the Mighty, the Merciful!

Well is it with thee, O servant, for having sheltered him who came unto thee, and honored and glorified him. By God! Were it not for My fear of the Nimrod of the Bayan, We would have given thee glad tidings with a word that would cause the realities of those who have drunk the pure wine from the Beauty of God, the Most Manifest, the Most Luminous, to rejoice, and would rend asunder the hearts of the ungodly. This is the reward of thy deed in thy love for God on the day when the pillars of the sincere ones were shaken.

And the Spirit be upon thee and upon thy family who circle round about thee, from God, the Mighty, the Inaccessible. And praise be to the Beloved of the mystics.

BH10327: Glorified be He Who hath sent down the verses…

He is the Wondrous One!

Glorified be He Who hath sent down the verses in truth from the heaven of holy wonderment, that ye may thereby recognize the most excellent of countenances in this Face which gleameth from behind the veils of light. Say: This is the Book of Command from the Point of the Bayan unto His servant who hath attained the presence of the Throne yet knew Him not, inasmuch as the Beauty of Glory had veiled His face from the eyes of all the worlds. O servant! Arise from thy seat, then stand firm in the recognition of thy Lord, and deprive not thyself of the Kawthar of holiness in this Paradise.

BH10341: Thy letter hath reached Our presence and We have…

In the Name of God, the Most Unapproachable, the Most Holy!

Thy letter hath reached Our presence and We have read it, for We are ever the Reader thereof. We beseech God to assist thee in His Cause and to grant thee that which He loveth and is pleased with, for verily He is powerful over all things. Be thou assured in thyself, then place thy trust in God, thy Lord and the Lord of all worlds. He, verily, aideth those who have detached themselves from all else save Him and have drawn nigh unto Him with hearts submissive and repentant. He will send down upon thee that which He hath ordained for thee in His Most Great and Glorious Kingdom. And glory be upon thee and upon him who hath believed in God, the Single, the One, the Mighty, the All-Knowing.

BH10396: This is a Book inscribed by the Pen…

This is a Book inscribed by the Pen of Command, the All-Wise. Without doubt it hath been sent down from the presence of One Mighty, All-Knowing, and from it have been ordained the measures of all things in Tablets of glory well-preserved.

Say: O people! Bear ye witness that there is none other God but Him, the Mighty, the Gracious, and that ʿAli-before-Nabil is the Manifestation of His Beauty and the Manifestation of His Glory, and the Repository of His Knowledge, and the Mine of His Revelation, and the Harborer of His Command and His Grandeur, and the Source of His Might and His Sovereignty, and verily there is none other God but Him, the Mighty, the Triumphant, the All-Wise.

BH10402: Not every heart is capable of acting…

Not every heart is capable of acting as a repository for divine love. For not every soul is suited for growing wondrous herbs—only the heart of a human being who continues to bear the trustworthiness of the All-Merciful and to give the fruit of wisdom and eloquence.

Blessed be the All-Merciful, who is endued with grace and beneficence.

Not everyone who has the form of a human being is worthy of the Most Great Panorama, nor will such a one necessarily be accounted a human being before God. For all who remain bereft of the robe of mystical insight are reckoned as beasts of the field by God.

BH10490: O peoples of the earth!

In the Name of the Most Holy!

O peoples of the earth!

How long will ye prevent the Youth from making mention of His Lord, the All-Glorious, the All-Knowing? And how long will ye occupy yourselves with the world and its ornaments? Verily it is a passing shadow. Death shall soon overtake you, and it is a vigilant watcher that neither armies and hosts can repel, nor your might, O concourse of the obstinate!

If ye are able, prevent then the winds of the All-Merciful from blowing; and when they blow, this Leaf moveth as it willeth. This is not of itself, but is from God, and all the hosts of earth cannot prevent that which He desireth, nor can the might of the oppressors.

BH10540: O Mustafa! Bear witness within thyself that verily He…

He is the Mighty.

O Mustafa! Bear witness within thyself that verily He is God, there is none other God but Him, the Sovereign, the Powerful, the Mighty, the Self-Subsisting.

Say: By God! The Fire hath returned in the Tree and speaketh forth: ʿI am, verily, God, the Mighty, the Exalted, the Well-Beloved.’ Be thou steadfast then in thy love and be not of them who in God’s Covenant remain not firm.

Say: By God! He knoweth the treachery of eyes and what the breasts conceal.

BH10550: O servant of God!

He is God!

O servant of God!

The gaze of God hath been upon thee, for until He gazeth upon one, none would gaze upon Him. His gaze hath preceded all the worlds, even as His mercy hath preceded and shall ever precede them. His remembrance of His servants hath ever preceded their remembrance of Him, yet not every ear heareth His remembrance, nor doth every heart perceive it. Beseech God that thou mayest not be debarred from His remembrance nor deprived of the fragrances of His days.

BH10554: O ye who soar in the atmosphere…

O ye who soar in the atmosphere of the All-Merciful! Be not veiled by the recorded words from the Beauty of Oneness, for all the divine knowledge and heavenly wisdom of which people today are proud have issued from and return to the Primal Point, and that Point came into being through the effect of the Pen of the All-Merciful. Therefore it is not befitting that people become proud of that which is recorded and remain deprived on the Most Great Day. Strive that perchance through divine assistance ye may attain unto the ocean of inner meanings.

BH10565: Praise be to God that thou hast ascended unto…

He is God!

Praise be to God that thou hast ascended unto the heaven of sanctification and drunk from the Salsabil of holy spirituality. Yet the winds of discord are blowing—the breezes of the All-Merciful wafting from one direction while the odor of Satan passeth from another.

My Beloved hath forewarned that all would turn away from the direction of the All-Merciful and become immersed in the sea of self. Indeed today the sea is turbulent and the waves are mounting higher—until such time as some soul, through the aid of the Most Great Heaven, shall pass safely across that sea.

BH10566: Praise God that thou hast drunk from the Kawthar…

He is God!

Praise God that thou hast drunk from the Kawthar of His love and hast been awakened from the slumber of heedlessness by the breeze of His grace.

Strive then, lest satanic manifestations steal away this divine subtlety, for thieves lie in wait for every precious pearl, and highway robbers lurk in ambush for the caravan of the Merciful One’s Yemen.

Beseech God that the trust of His love may remain secure from the thieves of days in the treasury of the heart.

BH10568: In times when the winds of tests and trials…

He is God!

In times when the winds of tests and trials are blowing, the lovers of the Countenance of the All-Merciful must remain completely assured, settled upon the couch of certitude. Otherwise, in days of glory when the breezes of divine power are passing by, all have claimed and will claim to love the Beauty of the All-Glorious. But that claim depends upon another test, for it is not known whether the cause was outward circumstances or the Divine Spirit itself.

And the Spirit be upon thee.

BH10570: Mention has been made of the grievous days [ayyam-i-shidad]…

He is God!

Mention has been made of the grievous days [ayyam-i-shidad] in the Tablet of Steadfastness. The Truth has informed all in wondrous and sublime Tablets of the great tribulation, that perchance the people might not be perturbed when it comes to pass, and might not be debarred from the path of the All-Merciful. Nevertheless, some souls, when the winds of trials blew, returned to the nethermost depths and turned away from the realm of divine oneness, save those who gaze with the eye of the All-Merciful and drink from the Kawthar of assurance.

And the Spirit be upon thee.

BH10615: Look thou to the heaven that thou mayest witness…

He is the Witnessed One, the Manifest, the Most Glorious

Look thou to the heaven that thou mayest witness the beauty of thy Lord, the Most Exalted, and be of them that are well-assured. Written by the Finger of God, say: This is the Hidden One, and whoso affirmeth aught beside Him hath indeed joined partners with God, and thus hath the matter been decreed. Purify thyself from all else but Me, then make mention of My tribulations, and tarry not even for a moment. Verily thy letter hath come before the Throne, and We have read it and ordained for thee a station that was, in truth, exalted. And glory be upon the people of glory.

BH10621: Glorified art Thou, O my God! Thou witnessest how…

He is the Mighty!

Glorified art Thou, O my God! Thou witnessest how I have been afflicted in Thy realm. On one side, O my God, hatred hath appeared in the hearts of Thine enemies, and on the other side, O my God, rancor and hypocrisy and hatred have emerged in the hearts of Thy loved ones. Thus, O my God, Thou hast made me to stand between these two groups. Therefore, O my God, aid me through Thy bounty and destroy mine enemies. Verily, Thou art powerful over all things.

BH10622: All praise be unto Thee, O my God…

He is the Glorious, the All-Glorious!

All praise be unto Thee, O my God, for having made me the target of Thy tribulations and the object of Thy decrees, and for having caused to descend upon me that which Thou hast not caused to descend upon any other among Thy creatures, inasmuch as Thou hast placed me beneath the hands of the most contemptible of Thy creation, and the most tyrannical of Thy creatures, and the basest of Thy servants, whom I am powerless even to mention.

Therefore, O my God, through Thy bounty and favor, deliver me, and then, O my God, free me from his clutches. Verily, Thou art powerful over all things.

BH10651: Those who doubt and imagine vainly have never received…

He is God

Those who doubt and imagine vainly have never received and will never receive a share from the chalice of certitude of the Lord of the worlds. Therefore, blessed are those souls who walk with complete certitude in the path of the All-Merciful and detach themselves from all who dwell in the realm of possibility.

The eye was created for the Most Great Vision and the heart for the Kawthar of the recognition of the All-Merciful Spirit. Therefore, one must strive so that the heart may attain His recognition and the eye may behold His countenance.

BH10654: The Primal Point, after traversing the realms…

He is God!

The Primal Point, after traversing the realms of the Kingdom, appeared adorned with the seal of finality, and from its composition diverse forms became manifest, culminating in the Most Great Form. And from the different forms that were brought into being through the marriage of the Single Point, that which pertained to the Treasury remained in its own dwellings. Therefore strive to bring forth, through the divine will, the treasures hidden from mortal eyes. This is the counsel of this imprisoned servant to that servant.

And the Spirit be upon thee.

BH10660: This is a letter from the servant of God…

In the name of God!

This is a letter from the servant of God to her who hath believed in her Lord and was numbered among the devout handmaidens before God.

Remember thy Lord in the watches of the night and at the beginning and end of day, then prostrate thyself before the countenance of thy Lord, for verily He is knowing of all things. Grieve not over anything, but place thy trust in God—verily He sufficeth thee against all the world. Then remind thy daughters from this servant that they may take a path unto Him Who occupieth the throne.

And the Spirit be upon thee.

BH10694: How wonderful is this supreme abasement that hath once…

He is the Most Holy

How wonderful is this supreme abasement that hath once again touched Me in the path of God’s love! By God, it is dearer to Me than the kingdom of the heavens and earth, and I would not exchange it for aught else in all creation, whether past or future. Thy Lord is witness to what I say. Were We to look to this world, We would not have borne what no one else in all the worlds hath borne. It shall perish in an instant, while glory and dominion will endure forever with God and His loved ones, and praise be to God, the Lord of all worlds.

BH09313: Say: The killing of souls is no proof…

Say: The killing of souls is no proof of manliness or bravery. If ye are able, revive withered souls with the breaths of the All-Merciful. A single serpent can destroy a thousand humans with its venom, yet this power hath never been and will never be a source of pride for the serpent. Rather, it hath caused it to become detested by all hearts. Blessed is the one who ariseth to promote unity and concord, not one who causeth separation and discord.

BH10751: If thou remainest firm in the love of God…

He is God!

If thou remainest firm in the love of God, the wellsprings of divine wisdom will flow from thy heart and tongue, and thou wilt become aware of the meanings of the divine words, for His love hath ever been and shall continue to be the teacher of pure hearts and sanctified souls.

Its effulgences remain concealed and hidden behind the veil of the heart. Rend thou the veil, that the lights of its revelation may shine forth upon the Sinai of thy breast.

BH10763: O my handmaiden! Do not despair of God’s mercy…

O my handmaiden! Do not despair of God’s mercy, but be devoted and remember, then prostrate and bow before your Lord, the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate. Say:

Glory be to You, O my God! I beseech You by Your Name through which You established Yourself upon the throne of Your Name, the All-Merciful, not to deprive me of the breezes from the paradise of Your reunion and the fragrances from the garden of Your presence. Verily You are powerful over whatsoever You will, and verily You are the Forgiving, the Generous.

BH10764: O handmaiden of God! Give thanks within thyself, inasmuch…

He is the Mighty, the Self-Subsisting!

O handmaiden of God! Give thanks within thyself, inasmuch as God doth make mention of thee at this moment with the tongue of divine and beloved sanctity, and doth by this means exalt thy name in the meadows of His good-pleasure. Beware lest thou forget the presence of God at the time when thou wert in His presence at both sunrise and sunset. Then remember My handmaiden on My behalf and give her the glad-tidings of My remembrance of her, that she may rejoice within herself and abide in a praiseworthy love.

BH10789: O Sughra, give a hearing ear to the sound…

O Sughra, give a hearing ear to the sound of the Pen of the Most High and pass beyond that which is other than God. Rejoice in His praise and be happy with His remembrance. I swear by the Ancient Beauty that were man to traverse all the heavens and earth, and carry out a search, he will never find happiness and joy save in His love. Therefore, strive that thou mayest be adorned with the diadem of His love amongst the handmaidens of God, and upon thee be the Spirit.

He is the Ever-Abiding. God beareth witness that there is none other God but Him and that ʿAli-before-Muhammad is His Manifestation and His Concealment, His Name and His Beauty, His Mystery and His Light, His Cause and His Utterance, His Speech and His Word, His Wisdom and His Proof, His Evidence and His Revelation, His Word and His Sovereignty, His Grace and His Bounty. His is the Command and the Creation, and verily He is the Mighty, the Powerful.

BH10854: That which caused the kingdoms of earth and heaven…

In the Name of God, the Most High, the Most Exalted!

That which caused the kingdoms of earth and heaven to tremble hath appeared, all things were shaken, the dwellers of earth and heaven lamented, and the faces of the doubters were transformed. Stand thou firm in the Cause through a power from God, thy Lord, then breathe the spirit of life into the hearts of all mankind. That which ye were promised in the Tablets hath been fulfilled, and every wise matter hath been made clear. And the Spirit be upon thee from thy Lord, the Mighty, the Beautiful.

BH10882: He is God! This is a tablet for one…

He is God! This is a tablet for one of the handmaidens of God, that she may be mindful of the remembrance of her Lord, the Most High, the Most Great. O My handmaiden! Be thou steadfast in the Cause of God, then dwell in the shelter of His mercy. Verily, He shall suffice thee above all the peoples. Beseech thy Lord at all times that He close not before thy face the gates of the Paradise of His good-pleasure, that thou mayest inhale from it the fragrance of the garment of the remembrance of thy Lord, the Most High, the All-Powerful, the Almighty.

He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise!

My Most Exalted Pen beareth witness unto My Most Glorious Self that He, verily, is the Truth, there is none other God but Him. He doth witness and see, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. And it beareth witness that I am well-pleased with thee. I rejoice in this most great bounty. Hadst thou expended all that is on earth, thou wouldst not have attained unto this Tablet. But God doeth whatsoever He willeth, and He is the All-Bountiful, the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

BH08586: O Muhsin! When We kindled the fire upon thee…

O Muhsin! When We kindled the fire upon thee, thou didst not ignite. Therefore, We sent the eternal fire upon the Temple of the Tablet and dispatched it unto thee, that perchance thou mayest be ignited within thyself and through thee all created things might be set ablaze, so that from all things may appear that which appeared unto Moses, son of Imran, upon the holy Sinai and the Dome of the Pomegranate. Thus doth the Spirit of Glory cast upon thee, that thou mayest be among those who stand firm in the Cause…

BH11044: rather, thou hast firmly resolved to flee, that thou…

…rather, thou hast firmly resolved to flee, that thou mightest escape from the field of tribulation and the place of tests. Far, far from it! Ye have not yet been sustained by the arrows of the enemy as was intended, nor have ye been afflicted by the gloating of the wicked ones. Your existence is essential for the manifestation of the name of the oppressed. Assuredly, cast out from your mind the thought of flight and efface it from your heart, and with utmost steadfastness establish yourselves in the dwelling-place of calamities.

BH11105: I swear by the Sun of inner meaning…

I swear by the Sun of inner meaning that the cruelties inflicted by these oppressors have bowed Me down, and turned My hair white. Shouldst thou present thyself before My throne, thou wouldst fail to recognize the Ancient Beauty, for the freshness of His countenance is altered by the oppression of the idolaters and its brightness hath faded. I swear by God! His heart, His soul, and His vitals are melted! Yet by the power of God do I move among the people….

He is the Giver!

Then assist them through Thy beneficence, for verily Thou hast power over all things.

BH11001: O loved ones of God! Ascend by the ladder…

In the Name of the Protector!

O loved ones of God! Ascend by the ladder of meanings and utterance unto your Lord, the All-Merciful. Be at rest in the remembrance of God and His love, then detach yourselves from those who have disbelieved in God, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy.

BH11002: O loved ones of God! Do not grieve over…

In the Name of God, the Most Ancient!

O loved ones of God! Do not grieve over what hath befallen the Luminary of the horizons. Verily, the sun is eclipsed and the moon is darkened. And praise be to God, the Lord of the worlds.

He is God!

O friends! In this springtime of the All-Merciful, when the Divine Tree of Will hath been adorned with wondrous fruits of knowledge, strive ye to pluck these ripe fruits with your own hands and partake thereof, for in other seasons they cannot be found, and even if found, they will surely lack their original freshness.

Verily He is the Mighty, the Self-Subsisting.

He is the Peerless!

Praise be unto Thee, O Lord my God! I beseech Thee by Thy Most Exalted Name in the Tabernacle of effulgent splendour, and by Thy Most Sublime Word in the Dominion of transcendent glory, to protect this servant, who hath enjoyed companionship with Thee, hearkened unto the accents of Thy voice and recognized Thy proof. Vouchsafe, then, unto him the good of both this world and the next, and grant unto him the station of righteousness in Thy presence, that his feet may not slip from Thine all-glorious and most exalted path.

BH11116: Forget not the remembrance of God and His Covenant…

In the Name of God, the Most Wondrous!

Forget not the remembrance of God and His Covenant. Verily, He is with thee and will aid thee in all conditions. Turn thou unto God and detach thyself wholly from all else besides Him. Thus doth the Pen make mention of thee at a time when it is prevented from mentioning the mysteries of eternity and lamenteth over that which hath befallen the Youth through that which the hands of the heedless have wrought.

BH11122: O my God! Praise be unto Thee for having…

He is the Most Ancient

O my God! Praise be unto Thee for having once again subjected me to the greatest humiliation in Thy love, O Thou in Whose hand is the kingdom of names. By Thy glory! The effulgence of Baha finds comfort in tribulation even as a suckling babe finds comfort at its mother’s breast, and my longing for it is like the longing of the thirsty one for the fountain of life, and of the sinner for Thy mercy, O Thou our Lord, the All-Merciful.

The Bird of Immortality, perched upon the Sadratu’l-Muntaha, warbleth at morn and eventide this most sweet utterance: O ye who are attracted by the fragrances of the All-Merciful’s love, soar ye in His atmosphere, and raise up the pavilion of detachment upon the shores of the Most Great Ocean, that through a drop from the ocean of His bounty the dead may attain unto an eternal and abiding life. And the Spirit be upon thee.

By Thy glory! Thy firm decree in Thy good-pleasure is the desire of the sincere ones, the hope of the longing ones, and the life of the lovers. I praise Thee in all conditions, O God of the worlds!

Verily, Thou art and hast ever been the Omnipotent, the All-Powerful, the Mighty.

He is God!

Glorified be He Who raised up this heaven without pillars, stretched forth the earth upon the waters, commanded the winds, caused the signs to be made manifest, fixed the seas in their places, caused ships to sail thereon, and made all things speak even as the Dove spoke in the dominion of eternity. He sends down to whomsoever He wishes that which shall protect him from the arrows of misfortune and guard him from the vicissitudes of time….
